And then there were six

IT'S a crying shame Boomers starter and Euroleague champion Joe Ingles and fellow World Cup participant Brock Motum didn't survive the NBA cut today.

Ingles was released by the Los Angeles Clippers and Motum by Utah Jazz when the franchises reduced their roster sizes.

It means Patty Mills and Aron Baynes (San Antonio Spurs), Andrew Bogut (Golden State Warriors), Matthew Dellavedova (Cleveland Cavaliers), Dante Exum (Utah Jazz) and Cameron Bairstow (Chicago Bulls) will carry the Australian flag in the 2014-15 NBA season which tips off this week.

You have to wonder now then if this wouldn't be the week the NBL should tip off too and it could pluck the eyes out of the players suddenly available.

But maybe that's a thought for another time.

While Ingles and Motum can (and have) commanded attention in Europe previously, fact is if I am an NBL coach and/or CEO, I'd be looking at my roster right now and on the phone to them before reading any further.

Ingles is from Adelaide, his fiancee is captain of the Adelaide Thunderbirds and they own a house here.

The 36ers have Mitch Creek out for six weeks (or more) with a bad ankle injury and lost import Jamar Wilson (below) in the clash with Wollongong to a hamstring injury.

He will be out for two weeks.

Motum would be a good substitute for Daniel Johnson (in Poland) too as an option.

If I'm Daequon Montreal, right about now I'm hanging out for the next fixture and ready to have a break-out game!

Ingles would be a good fit with United too though, again, it would require a line-up adjustment.

Going back to where he won an NBL Championship with South Dragons would not be a difficult life choice for the 198cm swingman.

It's a shame though our World Cup pair didn't survive the cut.

An Ingles-to-Blake-Griffin dunk would have been fun to see (and it is clear Grifin and DeAndre Jordan were big fans of his), and Motum sharing the stage in Utah with Dante also would have been fun.

Guess we'll just have to wait for the Rio Olympics.
