Andrej bound for Adelaide

ANDREJ Lemanis is bound for the Canary Islands with the Boomers for the World Cup later this year, with a short detour to Adelaide next month as guest of the Free Throw Foundation.
Lemanis, the NZ Breakers’ triple-NBL Championship coach, will be the FT Foundation’s guest speaker at its fundraising lunch on Friday, April 4 at the Hackney Hotel in Adelaide.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the basketball community to come along and listen to Andrej talk about the Boomers and the upcoming World Championship,” FT Foundation chairman David Spear said.
“I can’t remember a time when an Australian Head Coach offered his time so graciously to the public of Adelaide and I urge basketball lovers to attend and ask the questions they want.”
Lemanis, who has been in the US catching up with Australia’s NBA contingent - Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, Aron Baynes and Matthew Dellavedova – and has been across all of the negotiations of schoolboy star and projected NBA top five draft pick this year Dante Exum, will be able to bring fans uptodate with the Boomers’ World Cup preparations.
Why has FIBA even changed its traditional World Championship to a World Cup? Doesn’t soccer have that already?
Wait. Why am I asking rhetorical questions? (There’s ANOTHER one, dammit!!) These are good ones for Andrej himself, the Boomers boss having been in Barcelona for the World Cup draw which served Australia so nicely.
“These luncheon events help raise needed funds to keep the kids of South Australian basketball playing,” Spear said.
“Our first round of recipients from our February applications are about to land and there will be some very happy athletes, so we are very excited to be part of their journey,” Spear said.
Andrej joins fine company as a FT Foundation key speaker, following in the footsteps of Luc Longley and Ken Cole.
Lunch details are Friday, April 4, 12pm to 2 (and on beyond that at the bar), cost $40 per head (Schnitzel lunch, cheese platter, tea and coffee) with the price including a $12 donation to the Free Throw Foundation.
Booking forms are available at www.freethrowfoundation.com.au but don't delay because previous lunches have been huge hits.
