Anton still giving 'em Kurray

IT IS Melbourne Cup Day next Tuesday but Mount Gambier basketballer Anton Kurray will be celebrating the day the nation stands still with his 1,000th game of senior basketball.

A Basketball Mount Gambier Life Member, Kurray has been involved in BMG programs for yonks, obviously, en route to his 1,000-games destination.

He has accumulated his milestone in Mount Gambier senior competitions, giving outstanding service to the Cougars Basketball Club.

That started with playing but soon evolved into coaching, committees and club presidency, as it easily can do.

Kurray also has wracked up a pile of games with the Panthers Men’s B Grade team and in more recent years, as a member of social team, the Wreckers.

Such is his passion for the game, Kurray has stacked up the kilometres too, each week playing in the Naracoorte and Bordertown Association comps.

A true blue Aussie, the social aspect of enjoying a beer and a chat with his mates after games obviously has contributed to Kurray achieving his marathon record.

A valued member of Basketball Mount Gambier, Kurray is one of those volunteers every club and association needs, ever-reliable carrying out any number of diverse tasks in his typical “quiet achiever” manner.

His outstanding and possibly unparalleled achievement at senior level across all sports will happen next Tuesday at 7pm.

If you live in the South-East and love your ball, then you have to love a baller such as Kurray.

Maybe get along and support the big night. There's probably a beer or two to savor post-game too.
