Aussie showdown odds blow out

AUSSIE basketball fans hoping for a Spurs-Cavaliers NBA Final - and a Patty Mills, Aron Baynes, Matthew Dellavedova reunion - suffered a double blow today.

Mills' reigning champion San Antonio Spurs copped a shock 96-102 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, sending the Western Conference first round match-up back to LA's Staples Center for a Game 7 decider on Sunday.

The only series so far to go seven games - the Atlanta-Brooklyn series in the East potentially also can - it marked the first time in eight series since 2006 the Spurs failed to close out a playoff at home.

“We lost because the Clippers were determined, physical, focused, played harder than we did,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.

“We were soft with loose balls. We were just soft and it hurt.

“I don’t know how we stayed in the game to be honest with you.”

Today's win by the Clippers marked the fourth time in six games the visiting team has won in this series, setting up an interesting scenario for Sunday.

LA power forward Blake Griffin finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots and Chris Paul overcame a poor start to finish with 19 points and 15 assists.

San Antonio's "big three" Tim Duncan (12 points), Tony Parker (8) and Manu Ginobili (3) all struggled and it was Frenchman Boris Diaw and benchman Marco Belinelli who flew the flag.

Belinelli hit four straight threes as the Spurs threatened to run away with it during the second quarter and also made two big ones in the dying stages to bring his team to 96-98.

Diaw had 17 points and five assists.

In the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls made light work of Milwaukee Bucks, thrashing them 120-66 after opening with an 8-0 statement.

It was the biggest playoff winning margin since Minnesota beat St Louis 133-75 in 1956, not a single Buck scoring in double figures.

The Bulls move on to face Cleveland but the Cavs have had shocking news with Kevin Love requiring surgery for his injured shoulder and expected to be out for upto six months.

Love's left arm was yanked from its socket on Sunday by Boston’s Kelly Olynyk during Game 4.

Love had surgery yesterday.
