B&B: Abercrombie shares a pod 'exclusive'

BRAD Rosen and I have been working to get New Zealand Breakers and Tall Blacks icon Tom Abercrombie onto our Brad&Boti podcast for months and we finally succeeded. It's one of our fave interviews and we even secured an exclusive from the Breakers' stalwart regarding his future as a player. Is he hanging up the boots?

You'll certainly hear his answer if you hit this link and tune in for some of his great insights, not to mention why he ultimately preferred basketball to volleyball.

This is a star forward who has a Larry Sengstock Medal (as championship series MVP) in his trophy cabinet, four NBL championships with the Breakers, several more in his home NZ NBL and has evolved from an exciting tyro into the club's undisputed leader.

Such has been his profound impact on the Breakers that his #10 jersey is sure to be retired when he steps away from the game as one of its most dominant, versatile and athletic players.

The 198cm 35-year-old is now also one of the NBL's premier defenders, even though he leads the club in most points scored by an individual in Breakers colours. He plays both ends.

An NBA Summer League regular, he has plied his trade professionally in France, Spain and Turkey after playing college basketball in the US with the Washington State University Cougars.

Abercrombie has been through the good times with the Breakers, and the bad, and speaks about the different demands of both ends of that spectrum. In the NBL, he is one of only two players to produce a 50-40-90 season.

We talk about Pero Cameron, Dean Vickerman, Kirk Penney, Mika Vukona, Paul Henare, William McDowell-White - who Abercrombie calls "the Point God" - and much, much more.

There's even time for a Rosen Rattler and a Nagy Nasty before we sign off. So go and hit Spotify or Apple podcasts if they're your preferred destinations. Or click this link and hear what The Man of NZ basketball has to say.
