B&B: Imagine Madgen chattin' - We talk to Tess

WE love a good in-depth interview at our Brad&Boti podcasts and Melbourne's Tess Madgen - that rare commodity of a Boomer AND an Opal - is all that and more as she joins Brad Rosen and me to talk about the trip from the Barossa Valley to Tokyo, with many of the stops along the way.

And before I go any further, this episode is dedicated to all those parents and primary care-givers who ferry their kids around to trainings, games and other sport commitments - the least recognised of our "volunteers".

Why did we do that? Because Tess' parents had her sister and two brothers also playing sport at various levels and were living in SA wine country in the Barossa Valley. That was a lot of hours spent in the car.

Tess last year running out onto the hardwood as a Tokyo Olympian with Australia's Opals was something of a reward for all those accumulated kilometres.

A WNBL championship with Melbourne Boomers and a spot on the Aussie team for the FIBA World Cup this year also would be feathers in the Madgen head-dress. Because make no mistake, the Madgens are a gifted and versatile sporting family.

Tess has dabbled in the WNBA and also logged time playing in Poland. Playing WNBL at AIS when it still suited a team in the big league, she learned some of the finer points of her craft playing alongside Kristi Harrower at Bendigo Spirit, but also has been a fixture at Melbourne and Townsville Fire.

South Australian listeners will also understand why a young superstar who grew up watching and idolising Rachael Sporn and Jae Kingi, never suited up for Adelaide Lightning!

There's all this and more, including her major coaching influences and dealing with a recent bout of COVID - our own Brad Rosen has copped a dose himself just now - are covered in this entertaining podcast.

Hit this link to hear it or, if you prefer, go to your usual podcast sources at Apple or Spotify.

Brad and I have time to talk NBL and WNBL before Brad fires off a Rosen Rattler and I manage to squeeze out another Nagy Nasty. Hit this link to come along for the ride with us. Or not.
