B&B: Just a coupla fogies talking NBL/WNBL
TweetWE scoured the countryside this week in search of a guest for our weekly Brad&Boti podcast and came up shamelessly empty. It forced Brad Rosen and I to actually have a more in-depth look at the latest goings on in our WNBL and NBL comps and in the end, we quite enjoyed it!
Hopefully, you do too!
Of course there's been heaps to talk about now both leagues have burst back into full flight.
But the problem remains just knowing who to select for wins when lineups continue to be wracked by COVID aftermaths.
So we talk about a few major developments such as the Sydney Kings' decision to reward every player who has been on the club's NBL roster with a number allocation for where they fit in to the story.
As a past Kings captain, Brad loves the concept.
Me? Not so sure.
While Brad is rapt to forever be 34 - he wishes he was forever 34, don't we all? - in the Kings' pecking order, it's an order which can only be flawed.
So Steve Carfino is at #1. Really? He was the last player signed in 1988 so obviously that wasn't the criteria. It is who was in the first five of the Kings' first game? Then done by - get this - alphabetical order.
Because Carfino starts (appropriately) with a capital C, that makes him #1 ahead of Damian Keogh because his name starts with K. OK, so this is where I already don't like the system. I like the idea, but alphabetical order is no way to separate players for a prestigious memorial award, surely?
And the Kings history as SuperSonics also is wiped. But hats off they're trying something different and if a past player such as Brad can see its merit then more power to them.
The WNBL is back in action, Perth has been impressing and we loved Townsville coming from 20 down to beat the Boomers in Melbourne.
We also talk NBL - are Illawarra legit? And I've got a commentary annoyance for my Nagy Nasty, while Brad's Rosen Rattler revolves around the Bullets.
