B&B: Who is the Ice-Man? Shawn Dennis has the answer

BRAD Rosen and I have "gone international", tracking down the NBL's 2016 Coach of the Year, Shawn Dennis, in Japan where he now has been a head coach for five years. Yes, this is a "Blast from the Past" and talk-of-today feature at our weekly Brad&Boti podcast.

We discover too who the "real" Ice-Man is. Was it Shawn Dennis on his way to Newcastle Falcons? Greg Ireland? George Gervin? Jerry Everett? Or was it one of Dennis' toughest matchups, Darryl Pearce?

That Adelaide 36ers backcourt of Pearce and Al Green gave Shawn his share of on-court headaches when he was a hell of a hard-a$$ player at the Falcons.

The two purest shooters from Shawn's playing era were Pearce and Michael Johnson, men he believes could rock the NBL even today.

As a head coach, Shawn helped create the last great Townsville Crocodiles team which won the Blitz and gave us (and Perth Wildcats) players such as Nick Kay, Mitch Norton, Todd Blanchfield and Clint Steindl.

Where might the Crocs be now if the club still existed and when you think of those young men back at Townsville, you wonder what might have been?

But there's only so much time for reminiscing, Shawn running a quality Shiga team in Japan's B-League (that's "B" for Basketball, not B-Grade).

We hear Shawn's views about Rob Beveridge, Tom Wisman, Clint Steindl, Todd Blanchfield and even Lani Dennis.

Shawn also tells us of the impact Yudai Baba playing for Melbourne United in the NBL has had on Japan's opinion of our league.

It's solid gold stuff and we still have time to slip in a Rosen Rattler and a Nagy Nasty, and you can hear it all now at this link, or via Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
