Barlow to stick with United

EXPECT Melbourne United soon to confirm it has secured last season’s semi final nemesis Cedric Jackson and regained London Olympic swingman David Barlow for its 2016-17 NBL Championship assault.

Barlow (below) will see his first action in almost a year with the NBL All-Australian team which next month will compete with the Chinese national team in a three-game goodwill series in China.

An Achilles injury kept the 205cm veteran out of the 2015-16 season, United replacing him with Brad Hill.

Not exactly sure how the 32-year-old qualifies to represent the NBL in China but most likely he needs the run to test himself and the League was happy to oblige.

Jackson (below) was instrumental in three of the Breakers’ four championships and again one of the Auckland-based NBL club’s best in its 2015-16 run to the Championship Series.

Remarkably, he has reached the Grand Final in all his NBL seasons. United obviously is banking on that streak continuing in Melbourne.

Meanwhile in New Zealand, just back from a short stint in Greece with Koroivos, Corey Webster has signed for the James Blond Super City Rangers for the rest of the 2016 Bartercard NZ-NBL season.

The Tall Blacks, NBL and Breakers’ star shooting guard steered New Zealand into the 2015-16 NBL Grand Final against Perth Wildcats, averaging 19.6ppg.

“I’m excited to be joining the Super City Rangers and thank Coach (Jeff) Green and the organisation for making this opportunity available to me,” Webster said.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to help promote this league, help the Rangers as much as I can on and off the court, and to best prepare myself for upcoming Tall Blacks commitments.”

Webster last played in the Bartercard NZ-NBL in 2014 with the Wellington Saints, averaging 25.8 points per game as the Saints won the championship.

He debuts on Friday against Indigo Hawks at AUT Sports Centre.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Why wasn’t the NBL’s reigning 2015-16 Coach of the Year, Shawn Dennis, selected to coach the League’s All-Australian team in China against the Chinese national team in next month’s three-game series?
