Bennett crooning with in-tune Kings?

HAVEN'T had this verified yet but for us basketball junkies, it's a fun one nonetheless, positioning NBA forward and Canadian star Anthony Bennett in the Kings' purple next NBL season.

OK, it’s probably only a coincidence that one of Jeff Van Groningen’s destinations on his US scouting mission is Las Vegas – Bennett attended UNLV – but the source who slipped me the 203cm Canadian’s name and linked him to Sydney has been reliable in the past.

Bennett was the NBA’s  No.1 draft choice in 2013 after averaging 16.1ppg and 8.1rpg as a starter with UNLV’s Running Rebels while only clocking 27 minutes a game.

After being drafted by Cleveland Cavaliers, he subsequently was traded to Minnesota which eventually bought out his contract.

After being waived by the Timberwolves, he was thrown a lifeline by his hometown Toronto Raptors but he mustered only a further 19 NBA games despite a stint in the D-League.

His recruitment as Sydney’s first import signing, joining Kevin Lisch, Julian Khazzouh, Jason Cadee and Jeromie Hill would be well-received because he can play.

NBA PAIR: Corey Joseph with Anthony Bennett representing Canada internationally.

Last July, he teamed with Corey Joseph and averaged 15.6ppg and 10.4rpg for Canada at the FIBA 2015 Pan American Games.

Bennett's efforts helped Canada to the silver medal, including an upset win over the US in a semi final.

He would be a terrific NBL signing, IF it happens.
