Bites and pieces 1

FREE agency is a reality across two leagues and players are on the move, Melbourne United shortly to announce it has secured former Crocs swingman Todd Blanchfield.

That's the biggest NBL move - so far - as Blanchfield won the Most Improved Player award last season after averaging 14.6 points and six rebounds per game, shooting at 44.8 per cent from the field and 34.6 per cent from beyond the arc.

My (e)mail is Todd was offered more money to come, than Melbourne's inaugural MVP Mark Worthington was offered to stay. But that may just be a rumour. (It's not. Just saying. Because it might be. But it isn't. Hope I cleared that up.)

Adelaide 36ers Adam Gibson and Anthony Petrie also are in the sights of rival teams and will explore their options, though the latter seems well-settled in SA.

Hugh Greenwood, a 23-year-old Tasmanian-born guard and a huge hit at University of New Mexico - that's where WA superstar Luc Longley also went - may follow him again, this time to Perth.

Again, my early (e)mail is the Wildcats have Hugh earmarked to join Damian Martin and Jermaine Beal in their backcourt, Greenwood to be groomed as Martin's successor.

Jason Cadee will return to the Kings, alongside Tom Garlepp and Angus Brandt.

Opals forward Sara Blicavs will return to Dandenong Rangers where she began before two years and a WNBL championship at Bendigo Spirit.

The Spirit are happy today though with the news their WNBA star Kelsey Griffin will be back, as will Heather Oliver.
