Blitzin' in Brisbane, with some who-on-who

BIG Joe is asking for national anthem singers for Brisbane's Auchenflower Stadium, the Blitz will be available on live streaming and all we need now is a draw.

Toupees off to the NBL for offering the tournament to its NBL.TV live streaming provider PERFORM but even better news they didn't want it - just as they didn't last year either - so the league can do it using committed people.

Matt McQuade and the Sydney Kings crew did a ripper job last year when the Loggins-Bruton Cup was contested in Sydney and my (e)mail is the "voice of the Kings" will be calling the Blitz in Brisbane too.

Bruce Bolden and Brad Rosen will round out the commentary team and kudos to them as well if what I'm hearing - that they're picking up their own tab - is true.

The game so needs its volunteers, even at this level.

As the NBL finds its way fully back out of the wilderness, hopefully those volunteers will have a payday down the track for the work they did now out of genuine love of the game.

Here's how we called it today at News Corp: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/basketball/nbl-blitz-in-brisbane-for-logginsbruton-cup-to-be-streamed-live-by-league/story-fnii09gt-1227037346915

So there WILL be footage clubs can use to pump up the 2014-15 season in action adverts.

WHAT the Blitz still might be missing is a marquee event already mooted on social media - a 2-on-2 tournament between the coaching staffs.

Come now, seriously, who doesn't want to see that?

And with all due respect to additional assistants with several clubs, check out these teams:

ADELAIDE 36ERS: Joey Wright and Kevin Brooks

CAIRNS TAIPANS: Aaron Fearne and Mick Downer

MELBOURNE UNITED: Chris Anstey and Darryl McDonald

NEW ZEALAND BREAKERS: Dean Vickerman and Paul Henare

PERTH WILDCATS: Trevor Gleeson and Adam Tatalovich

SYDNEY KINGS: Damian Cotter and Robbie McKinlay

TOWNSVILLE CROCODILES: Shawn Dennis and Mike Kelly

WOLLONGONG HAWKS: Gordie McLeod and Eric Cooks

A series such as this would have to be straight knock-out otherwise the medical teams might go on strike for unreasonable overload.

But how about last season's grand finalists Perth and Adelaide for a mouth-watering first round?

How hard do you reckon Joey Wright and Adam Tatalovich would hit a screen on the pick-and-roll?

KB still can swish a bucket too so I'm tipping the 36ers advance.

That Melbourne-Sydney rivalry would have to be utilised but stopping Chris Anstey and D-Mac would be a big call for the Cotter-McKinlay tandem. Can't see it.

Wollongong and Cairns had a topsy-turvy rivalry last season, consistently winning in the opponent's gym.

In neutral territory, could Fearney contain Eric Cooks and Mick Downer use his international knowledge to curtail the playmaking of The Gordster?

I'm tipping the Hawks, narrowly, and considerable oxygen required post-match to resuscitate both outfits.

The dour defensive struggle that would be New Zealand versus Townsville would have soccer connotations as the Shawn Dennis-Mike Kelly duo take the best of the Dean Vickerman-Paul Henare assault.

I'm tipping Kelly sticks the basket which breaks a 0-0 deadlock and advances the Crocs.

But jumping back in the semi final against Anstey-DMac would be too great a hurdle for the Crocs duo.

Similarly, McLeod-Cooks might struggle to bounce back again for their semi with the Wright-Brooks combo, setting up the Adelaide-Melbourne Final.

Rolled out on individual stretchers, the Bronze Medal playoff between Dennis-Kelly and McLeod-Cooks would be reduced to a free throw challenge.

Going by their NBL lifetime stats, Gordie was 78.2% from the stripe and EC 62.6%. Shawn Dennis stroked freebies at 72.3% and Mike Kelly shot them at 77.8%.

That gives the Crocs an overall FT percentage of 75% to the Hawk pair’s 70.4 so on that, The Bronze is heading to the far north.

Given this FT process would have taken the better part of an hour, by now, refreshed and rejuvenated, the Anstey-DMac duo would get the Gold from the Wright-KB on an Anstey dunk from a McDonald feed.

Melbourne gets the Gold, Adelaide the Silver, with KB and Joey still moaning about how “we won the trash-talking baby” as they sashay off.

Of course, with Anstey and DMac done and heading for the showers, you just know Cal Bruton and Leroy Loggins would throw down the gauntlet.

“Hey man, if the Cup’s named after us, surely we’ve gotta get a shot at the 2-on-2,” you can already hear Cal claiming.

“I invented 2-on-2!”

TOWNSVILLE has added NZ Breakers championship-winner and former Tall Blacks forward Leon Henry to its 10-man team. For the full story, go to: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/basketball/townsville-crocodiles-throw-out-an-nbl-career-lifeline-to-nz-forward-leon-henry/story-fnii0aj1-1227036156131

Meanwhile the Hawks look like they have picked up former 36ers development guard Kyle Adnam for the same development role at Wollongong, Daniel Joyce has won a roster spot with Sydney, and Sam Johns is a new development player at Adelaide.

For Sam’s story, try this link: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/basketball/adelaide-36ers-unveil-versatile-development-player-sam-johns/story-fnii09ki-1227037664040

TOMORROW: The Wildcats didn’t always have their way with the 36ers in playoff games, even in Perth. So it’s back to 1998 for the NBL semi finals.
