Boomers in the Black

MELBOURNE Boomers may have secured a potential WNBL star out from under everyone's nose by signing former Duke University star and WNBA-experienced 196cm centre Chante Black.

The athletic American has been averaging 20.6ppg and 11.1rpg for Bendigo in the SEABL this season and is a huge catch for the Boomers.

Black, 30, is a former teammate at Duke of Adelaide Lightning WNBL champion and 2013 Townsville Fire Grand Final captain Jess Foley.

Taken at #10 by Connecticut Sun in the WNBA's 2009 draft, Black also has played at Tulsa and San Antonio and will bring size and experience to Guy Molloy's team.

Runner-up last season, Perth Lynx has not been idle, overnight announcing securing dual-WNBA champion Monica Wright of the Minnesota Lynx.

Wright, 28 and 178cm, previously played in the WNBL with Dandenong Rangers and currently is a teammate of ex-Rangers Abby Bishop and Jenna O'Hea at Seattle Storm.

“I have always loved Australia since I last played there. The WNBL is a great league for me because it’s very physical and Australian players are very skilled. I think it will make me a better player,” Wright said.
