Boomers-Lithos cancelled

A LEAK has cost Australia its men’s basketball pre-Olympics warm-up game against arch international rival Lithuania ... but not a security leak.

The roof of the stadium in Buenos Aires where the teams were to do battle earlier today had leaked, making the court surface too slippery for international play.

The Boomers are due to play host Argentina tomorrow, then Brazil in Sao Paulo on Thursday.

Australia’s rivalry with Lithuania was born with the tiny Baltic nation twice denying the Boomers an Olympic medal, beating them for bronze at Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000.

At the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Turkey, Australia beat Lithuania 82-75 with Joe Ingles (below) leading the charge on 18 points.

The Opals meanwhile start an exhibition tournament in the US from July 28-August 1, playing Canada on July 28 in Delaware, France on July 30 in Connecticut and the USA on August 1 at Madison Square Garden, New York.

All three teams have wins over the Opals at their most recent meetings.
