Boomers update, no argy bargy

AUSTRALIA has taken down former Olympic champion Argentina 84-83 in Argentina and done it without Andrew Bogut and Joe Ingles.

While Bogey was cheering from the sidelines, Ingles was celebrating the birth in Melbourne of twins Jacob Antony and Milla Bernadette to his wife Renae, as David Andersen (16 points at 63 per cent, 8 rebounds) paced the Boomers to victory.

Big threes by Andersen and Ryan Broekhoff and a runner by Matthew Dellavedova sealed the win against the Argentines who boasted Luis Scola (27 points), Manu Ginobili (22 points) and Andres Nocioni (13 points, 13 rebounds).

Brock Motum had 14 points with eight boards, Patty Mills 13, Chris Goulding 10 while Dellavedova dished seven assists.

While the comeback win was one to savour, Argentina on Saturday played the Rio Olympics favourite and defending gold medallist USA, and lost 74-111.

Australia's Olympic campaign in Rio starts start against world #3 France, then world #2 Serbia before the world champion USA.

It is certainly no walk in the park, unless you're thinking Central Park in New York at 3am.
