Brock makes it 'Magnificent 7', for now

BROCK Motum gave the Boomers a lift today when he became the seventh Aussie in the NBA for season 2014-15, signed by Utah Jazz.

The franchise issued a statement today saying it had signed the 208cm Brisbane forward who is in Spain with the Boomers preparing for the World Cup.

That would make it a "Magnificent Seven" for Australia ... provided San Antonio Spurs championship winning-centre Aron Baynes stays in the NBA.

Baynes has a one year contract offer of $1,115,243 to stay with the Spurs which will stay on the table until October 1.

But according to reports, the talented centre is looking for closer to $2million, which he might get in Europe, especially if his World Cup form mirrors how he has played in the buildup.

And playing is the other key for Baynes. He wants to play, not wait for daylight.

That said, San Antonio still has considerable allure as one of the NBA's most stable and well-run organisations. If he stays, Australia would now have seven active NBA players.

Andrew Bogut is at Golden State, Patty Mills with the Spurs, Matthew Dellavedova at Cleveland, Dante Exum at Utah and Cameron Bairstow at Chicago.

Motum takes it to seven - if Baynes stays - and will be there alongside Exum at the Jazz as another NBA franchise starts to capture Australian hearts.

Motum was undrafted after attending Washington State and spent the 2013-14 season with Granarolo Bologna in the Italian SerieA League.

He averaged 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting at 50.6 percent.

He looked good for the Jazz at the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, making the most of his limited minutes with 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

The announcement today is a nice little pre-Cup boost for Australia ahead of Sunday morning's opener against Slovenia.
