Broekhoff "Euro" Player of the Week
TweetAUSTRALIA's 2014 FIBA World Cup starter Ryan Broekhoff has won the Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award after a dazzling display for Lokomotiv.
Broekhoff, 25 and a versatile 200cm forward originally from Frankston, had a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds as Lokomotiv smacked Vita Tbilisi 121-71 in the VTB United League.
Averaging 10.4ppg and 5.4rpg, Broekhoff (below) was at his best, his 23-point haul including 5-of-8 three-pointers, Lokomotiv shoring up its fourth placing by taking its record to 15-5.
On the eve of New Zealand's NBL title defence, it was last year's championship hero, Ekene Ibekwe, who was second in the PotW voting.
Ibekwe, who briefly was part of Melbourne United's plans this season, had a 22-point, 14-rebound double for Krasny Oktyabr in its 96-80 win over Tsmoki-Minsk.
Broekhoff's form is a further reason to stay excited about the Boomers' medal prospects in Rio later this year at the Olympic Games.
The camaraderie and commitment of the Boomers' core group under Andrej Lemanis, is unquestionable.
During the NBA All Star break last week, the Boomers contingent in The Show chose to spend their spare time together (above) and their commitment to winning Gold in Rio has been unwaivering.
