Carrera to miss 36ers showdown

NEWLY-activated Cairns Taipans import Michael Carrera will miss Friday's revisit by the Adelaide 36ers after being found guilty of intentional impact to the face, suspended for two matches, reduced to one with an early plea.

Presumably Carrera will take the plea, the NBL's Games Review Panel today doling out fines and 13 charges as the result of incidents in the Cairns-Perth and Illawarra-Brisbane games on Sunday.

The full list is:

Illawarra Hawks v Brisbane Bullets

Demitrius Conger - Illawarra
• Making unreasonable contact with the face. Intentional / Low impact/ High = 1 game suspension down to $1000 fine if accepts early plea
o For incident during the melee at 5.33 in the 3rd Qtr
• Making unreasonable contact with the face. Careless / Medium impact / High = 1 game suspension down to $750 fine if accepts an early plea
o For incident during a rebounding contest at 3.32 in the 3rd Qtr
• Engaging in a melee / brawl = $500 down to $375 if accepts early plea

Delvon Johnson – Illawarra
• Engaging in melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts early plea

Rotnei Clarke – Illawarra
• Engaging in a melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts an early plea

Adam Gibson - Brisbane
• Engaging in a melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts early plea

Tom Jervis - Brisbane
• Engaging in melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts an early plea

Cairns Taipans v Perth Wildcats

Michael Carrera – Cairns
• Unreasonable contact with the face. Intentional / Medium impact / High = 2 games suspension down to 1 game if accepts early plea
o For incident immediately preceding the melee in the 4th Qtr
• Engaging in a melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts early plea

OUTED: Michael Carrera, making his 2017-18 debut against Perth.

Jarrad Weeks – Cairns
• Engaging in a melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts an early plea

Nnanna Egwu - Cairns

• Engaging in melee / brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts an early plea

JP Tokoto – Perth
• Unduly Rough Play. Careless / Low impact / High = $750 fine down to $500 if accepts an early plea
• Engaging in melee/brawl = $500 fine down to $375 if accepts an early plea

All of the players have until 5pm AEDST tomorrow to accept or challenge these charges.

Any player who does, faces a single member tribunal on Thursday.

The GRP did seem to reflect the situation in Cairns more accurately than the officials caught up in the heat of the moment, but Carrera's likely absence after only making his long-awaited debut against the Wildcats is a huge blow ahead of Friday's game against the Sixers at the Orange Grove.

Both teams are in the top four currently on 3-2 records, Adelaide winning 96-70 in Cairns in Round 2 on October 12.

NBA star Josh Childress will be making his NBL return with the 36ers in that game.
