Chris' hopes bubbling along

DUAL-Melbourne Tigers MVP Chris Goulding did his chances of an overseas contract great good today despite Dallas losing 81-82 to Charlotte in Las Vegas.

Goulding, who started and played 25:13 for the Mavs in the NBA Summer League clash, led a fightback from a double-digit deficit, hitting some trademark big baskets.

His 12 points came on 4-of-6 3-pointers and he also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Of Goulding’s 12 points, nine came in a dramatic fourth quarter as the Mavs fought back from 13 down (it had been as many as 17) to tie the game at 77-77 on a triple by the 2012-13 NBL ALL Star Game MVP.

It looked as if they had the win until Hornets back-up point guard Roberto Nelson pulled a ridiculous match-winning triple out of his back pocket, beating a double-team in the process.

While the cloud now well-and-truly hovers over Goulding’s NBL future, last year’s impressive American playmaker Steve Dennis has been back in Melbourne since April and prepping for his league debut.

Dennis, 26, was the other stand-out stud during The Blitz last year before snapping an Achilles tendon on the eve of the season.

Initially replaced by Ayinde Ubaka and then Mustapha Farrakhan, neither was the fit Dennis had been in his early games.

A dream to coach and the ideal teammate, the 198cm guard with the silky slashing moves was the NCAA Division 2 Player of the Year in 2010.

He looked the goods too for the Tigers and will step it up with the new United, alongside “new faces” David Barlow and Daryl Corletto, plus returnees Mark Worthington, Lucas Walker, Nate Tomlinson and Owen Odigie.

Oh. And don’t forget Daniel Kickert.
