Creek's opener to be against Knicks

FORMER Adelaide 36ers captain Mitch Creek should make his NBA G-League debut for Long Island Nets against Westchester Knicks on November 4.

Creek, 26 and a 196cm swingman many believe is a Tokyo Olympics candidate after some quality international showings with the Boomers, was waived by the NBA's Brooklyn Nets earlier this month.

But he today was named on the Long Island Nets' training camp roster and is expected to be part of the team as an affiliate player.

Creek signed an Exhibit 10 contract at the Nets and was unlucky to miss on a two-way contract with Brooklyn which had been impressed with his workouts and performances for Dallas Mavericks at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.

The Boomers' starter in their FIBA Asia Cup Gold Medal success averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for Dallas, shooting 43 percent from the field through five games.

He had an outstanding Asia Cup tournament and was unlucky to miss its All Star Five team. In the NBL, he steered the 36ers into the Grand Final Series against Melbourne United after captaining Adelaide to the 2016-17 regular season championship.

He was named both the Sixers' club MVP and the People's Choice MVP of the NBL last season.
