Fire has been seeing Stars

DON'T think for a second the heat won't be on the Fire in the WNBL Preliminary Final - and not just to get the live stream right.

How woeful was that for last week's major semi against Perth?

Viewers tuning in late could have been forgiven for thinking they were seeing a montage of the "best of Picasso", such was the pixilation monotony.

Let's hope Townsville or the WNBL - which all season promised us an "imminent" television coverage of the league that never eventuated - at least get THAT right.

Because on the court, Townsville has plenty of issues to worry about, having twice been beaten by Preliminary opponent SEQ, including at Townsville RSL Stadium.

RED ARMY? Not quite. It's the Fire's home faithful and what SEQ also will have to face.

The last time, it was without Ify Ibekwe in the lineup, which will buoy the Stars even more.

This rivalry is quite something, considering SEQ was only born this season. It started in the preseason with some social media activity between the Stars' ex-coach and one of the Fire's marquee players, then spilt into the season proper and now, here we are, with either the defending champ or the new kids on the block heading on to face Perth Lynx for the Wattle Valley Championship.

SEQ, saved from early extinction, now believes it has destiny on its side, just as Dandenong did a few years back when the Rangers rode that emotion to a title.

The Stars can do just that again tomorrow.

The Lynx showed last week that finals inexperience can be a myth when the belief is strong.

All the pressure is on Townsville and it hasn't always responded well to that pressure this season.

At its best and most ruthless, Townsville not only wins this but also the Grand Final.

But finding that identity has been more difficult this season and if there are doubts tomorrow, there will be a long, cold winter ahead to pontificate where it all went wrong.
