French toast, now for some Canuks
TweetA 16-5 SECOND quarter by the Sapphires last night underpinned a comprehensive 65-48 win over France at the FIBA World Under-17 Championship in the Czech Republic.
The win sent the Aussies into the fifth-place playoff against Canada which qualified by beating Japan 46-45 in a thriller.
Chloe Bibby led the Aussies with 14 points at 63 per cent, Tahlia Tupaea not far behind with 13 at 86 per cent.
Tupaea, who is expected to shine for the Sydney Uni Flames this season, also had three boards, two assists and three steals, Alex Sharp grabbing nine rebounds.
Australia’s 53-27 boards ascendancy was a huge factor in the rout.
IN case you didn’t hear, see or read these, here are some updates:
Wollongong Hawks have re-signed forward Tim Coenraad and centre Larry Davidson for their 2014-15 campaign, joining Oscar Forman in the club’s NBL roster.
Having secured David Barlow, Melbourne United expect to reveal former Nunawading junior Daniel Kickert as their marquee player for 2014-15.
One of the first Australians to play at St Mary's University, the 208cm forward-centre moved to Europe where his size and strength, along with a talent for shooting 3-pointers, has stood him in very good stead.
Kickert, 31, has played in Spain, Italy, Poland and the Ukraine but has rarely been on the local radar of Australian fans.
That is about to change.
