Honour for Lindsay

BASKETBALL legend Lindsay Gaze will be honoured at a Gala Dinner served up by Australia’s top chef.

Gaze’s induction into the Naismith Hall of Fame will be celebrated with a Gala Dinner prepared by globally renowned chef and self-confessed basketball nut, Ben Shewry.

The unusual pairing of culinary excellence and basketball has been cooked up to honour one of the fathers of the Australian game, Lindsay Gaze, before he heads off to the US to be inducted into basketball’s Hall of Fame.

There are still tables available to join in this extraordinary evening on Wednesday August 19 at Hawthorn’s Leonda By The Yarra.

The evening also includes a panel discussion on “Parenting Champions” hosted by SEN 1116 radio’s popular Morning Glory team Andy Maher, Tim Watson and another basketball legend as well as Lindsay’s son, Andrew Gaze.

Trevor Marmalade will lurking over near the bar to chip in an additional humorous flavour to the evening.

As well there will be some wonderful raffle prizes and auctions on the night with the proceeds going to one of Lindsay’s passions and legacies, the development of young athletes at the Melbourne Tigers’ Junior Basketball Club.

Lindsay needs little introduction in the world of Australian sport and is the first Australian to be invited into Naismith Hall of Fame for his lifetime’s work promoting the game domestically and internationally as a player, coach and mentor.

Lindsay is a seven-time Olympian playing for Australia in three Olympics between 1960 and 1968 and coaching the national team at another four Olympics between 1972 and 1984.

He also coached the Melbourne Tigers for a remarkable 35 years.

Alongside Lindsay, this year’s Naismith “Class of 2015” includes 8-time NBA All Star Dikembe Mutombo and 8-time WNBA All Star and arguably the game’s greatest female player, Lisa Leslie.

Ben Shewry – Australia’s restaurant MVP as voted by both the international San Pelligrino awards and Gourmet Traveller – has generously offered up his skills for the Parenting Champions Gala Dinner.

Ben’s Attica Restaurant is the only Australian restaurant listed in the world’s top 50 by San Pelligrino.

The dinner will be selected and prepared by Ben with each course matched by premium wines from Fowles Wines’ “Ladies who Shoot their Lunch” and “Are you Game?” vintages.

It will be unique evening, ideal for sports lovers and foodies alike.

Tables of 10 or individual seats are available at $150 per head and can be purchased through trybooking.com/HXXU

So if you love hooping, sporting yarns and great food, get some friends together and book a spot in what will be a terrific night pairing two greats of their games.

For further details please contact club president Chris Brooking on 0418 844554 or Ben Shewry at Attica on 9530 0111.
