ICYMI: Stuff you probably know

ICYMI: *Australian Opals’ 2006 World Championship Gold Medal-winning coach Jan Stirling is being inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame.

Jan goes in with a pretty decent class of 2015, including some dude named Michael Jordan, the magnificent Lithuanian guard Sarunas Marciulionis and Soviet mountain Vladimir Tkachenko, among others.

FELLOW INDUCTEE: There's that MJ guy, playing for ... Washington

As a WNBL coach, Stirling's Adelaide Lightning did not miss the playoffs in her 12 years at the helm, winning four championships. As Opals boss, she medalled at every major tournament.

*Cairns Taipans are looking for a new import - good thing coach Aaron Fearne is in Las Vegas looking at the NBA Summer League after completing Worldwide Invitational coaching duties – after Scottie Wilbekin received a four-year contract offer from Philadelphia 76ers.

That makes two seasons in succession the NBL has sent an import to the NBA, Wilbekin following James Ennis (Perth Wildcats to Miami Heat) in 2014.

*Boomers World Cup stand-out Ryan Broekhoff did his NBA chances no harm with a solid performance for Denver Nuggets at NBA Summer League in Vegas.

Brock Motum also leaves Utah Jazz wondering whether to add a third Aussie to the roster.

*Critics around the world are hailing LeBron James’ performance as a penny-pinching, Downton Abbey-loving version of himself in the new movie Trainwreck.

It’s not a simple cameo either. I’m just thrilled to see the reviews say he didn’t flop.

*Luke Schenscher signed for three years with Townsville, hoping to emulate his “Big Red” days - alongside Adam Ballinger at Adelaide – with Brian Conklin at the Crocs.
