Brad&Boti: Talking NBL 25 with Joey Wright
TweetWE'VE done it. Brad Rosen and I have reached our milestone 150th episode of our Brad&Boti podcast and to preview the upcoming 2024-25 NBL season, we enlisted the aid of one of our favourite past guests and one of the league's all-time great coaches, Joey Wright.
A past NBL import as a player, Joey is a championship winning coach with one of the teams rated among our all-time best, the 2007 Brisbane Bullets, a three-time Coach of the Year and a man who chalked up 500 NBL games as a head coach.
His perspective and insight into the sport and the NBL is second-to-none and he shows that again here as we look at the opening round in Perth.
We preview the grand final rematch between Tasmania and Melbourne, the JackJumpers needing to find a way to cover the loss of Jack McVeigh and also injuries to Sean MacDonald and import Craig Sword.
Then there's Perth versus South East Melbourne, New Zealand against Brisbane, Cairns facing Illawarra before the round concludes on Sunday when Adelaide and Sydney compare notes.
Who will be winning the championship, be its MVP, Coach of the Year etcetera. We work our way through it all while also nominating a few players we expect to truly shine this season ... young men such as Lachlan Olbrich at Illawarra for example.
Joey gives us an insight into the mindset of Jack McVeigh, the man who made 2024 all his own, steering the JackJumpers to the championship, winning the Larry Sengstock Medal along the way, being selected on the Boomers for the Paris Olympic Games, more than justifying that selection with his stellar performance, before winning a two-way NBA deal.
Jumpin' Jack's 2024 is as good a single year as anyone has enjoyed in recent memory. But it did not happen overnight and Joey has played a major role in McVeigh's journey.

Our 150th episode is a wrap and a rap. Enjoy it.
