TweetTHEY'RE keen, they're ready and they can't wait to get the World Cup underway. That's the mood in the Australian Boomers camp on the eve of the tournament.
Conversations yesterday with coach Andrej Lemanis, playmaker Matthew Dellavedova, tyro Dante Exum, NBL rep Adam Gibson and 29-year-old "veteran" Brad Newley left the unmistakeable impression the Boomers have loved their build-up but now are hanging out for the real thing and Game One against Slovenia.
We don't have long to wait for what rapidly has become the most anticipated international event for the Boomers since the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Even without big names Patty Mills and Andrew Bogut, the pervading atmosphere of confidence and self-belief is striking.
It's not loud or overblown but then it also isn't the "quiet confidence" of decades past, when that term was more or less a euphemism for "sincere doubt".
David Andersen has been one of the leaders and Joe Ingles also an early practitioner of these Boomers speaking their minds - they are in Spain to win a medal.
There's been enough of making up the numbers. Australian men's basketball is on its way back and these are the men who want to be at the forefront of that international resurgence.
