Mr Humphries is free for a super future

BEN Simmons, Thon Maker … add Isaac Humphries to the list of young Aussies heading to the NBA in the short-term future.

Humphries, Sydney’s 211cm 16-year-old sensation was at it again overnight as Australia saw off Puerto Rico 76-52 in the FIBA Under-17 Men’s World Championship in Dubai to advance to the semi finals against Spain.

Averaging 20.4 points, 13.21 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 3.4 blocks at the Worlds, Humphries has caught everyone’s eye in a team which is doing Australia proud every time it walks onto the floor.

His 41 points (with 19 boards and five blocks) in the group loss to Canada is the new record for an individual at a FIBA Under-17 Worlds.

(A fairly tidy line on your playing resume you might think.)

Against Puerto Rico, he chimed in with 14 second-half points en route to 16, with 11 rebounds.

Guard Dejan Vasiljevic did all the damage early, sinking 5-of-7 triples in a 19-point first half tour de force.

He completed his seek-and-destroy mission with game highs at 21 points and 13 rebounds.

The Aussies bounded from the blocks with a 23-12 first quarter and withstood everything the Puerto Ricans could throw at them.

The USA meets Serbia in the other semi final overnight, our Under-17s currently providing inspiration for the Boomers as they edge closer to the World Cup.
