NBL, Europe pursuing Dawkins

FORMER Duke shooting guard Andre Dawkins appears to be on the radar of the Brisbane Bullets and Sydney Kings but Europe also is circling the sweet shooter.

Dawkins, 24 and 193cm, was part of Duke's 2010 NCAA champion after playing a key role in getting the Blue Devils through the Elite Eight.

Dawkins hit two crucial 3-pointers in the first half to help Duke stay in the game against Baylor.

Undrafted in 2014, he played for Miami Heat in the NBA Summer League. Playing D-League for Sioux Falls Skyforce that season, Dawkins (below) suited for four games with the Heat in 2014-15.

Brisbane assistant coach CJ Bruton said yesterday the Bullets were reviewing shooting guards.

Dawkins mainly has appeared in the D-League since 2014 but spent 2015-16 in Italy with Auxilium CUS Torino, averaging 9.6ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.0apg.

While the Kings also are in the picture, so are European suitors so it will be interesting to see if the prediction by new Sydney coach Andrew Gaze earlier this week that unrest on the Continent will work in Australia's favour, proves correct.

Meanwhile in the west, Jermaine Beal has apparently priced himself out of a contract but the champion Wildcats have landed on their feet, signing Jaron Johnson.

Johnson, 24, is a 198cm shooting guard with a 203cm wingspan and an alleged vertical leap of 95cm.

He also has been playing in the NBA's D-League after a college career at Louisiana Tech.
