NBL site? Not NBL's fault

THE NBL is not to blame for the parlous state of its website, the championship ladder at least correctly upgraded overnight – only took 24 hours – but the stats leaders still stuck in 2012-13.

And before you pounce to say how is it conceivable the league NOT be in control of its own website, let me give you one word: “contracts”.

Disturbed by the state of the official website, yesterday I spent some time trying to ascertain how a league with a new CEO, a burgeoning product, players who go to bat for it on radio and in social media, and which is making up lost acreage at a rate of knots, could leave its primary point of contact for the average punter in such a dreadful state.

But the fact is, NBL Pty Ltd is not responsible for its website.

Perform, the company which gives us standard definition NBL.TV, was awarded the website contract by Basketball Australia well before the demerger.

NBL Pty Ltd has been requesting website updates for more than a week and has very limited access to make changes itself.

My information is NBL Pty Ltd is as frustrated as its growing fan base because it feels hamstrung by yet another BA deal it inherited and is stuck with for the immediate future.

It does not even have the capacity to remove last season’s stats from the front page!

Aaargh! I am sure we feel our league’s pain as acutely.

One step forward, two steps back.

But at least we know now who it is underPERFORMing.

PATTY Mills had 22 points at 60 per cent and 4-of-7 threes as San Antonio rocked Orlando 123-101 in an NBA preseason exhibition today.

Mills also had three boards, two assists, five steals and blocked two shots, as many as Tim Duncan.

Aron Baynes played a whisker under eight minutes for two points and a rebound.

Matthew Dellavedova had nine points, including 2-of-3 threes in 25:24, four rebounds and three assists as his Cleveland Cavs beat Brett Brown’s Philadelphia 76ers 104-93 earlier this week.

AFTER the overwhelming sadness yesterday hearing the news Ken Richardson had passed away, News Ltd today gave me the chance to gather a few of my thoughts about one of the biggest influences on Australian basketball.
