NBL21 TotW Rd.16: Not these guys again!

THEY have been our Team of the Weak As P--- three times this NBL season yet this round they arrive as our bona fide Team of the Week, also for the third time! It may be why it's dangerous to trust those Adelaide 36ers.

But not in Round 16 where they took on the might of Queensland's NBL representation and sent them both packing.

Brisbane came into Adelaide on the back of an important win over South East Melbourne but had its head handed to it by the 36ers in warhorse Daniel Johnson's landmark 350th game.

Johnson went off for 26 points and tyro Josh Giddey had his second consecutive triple-double as the Sixers made a statement about their long-range plans.

Cairns copped it from the get-go too, Adelaide ahead 27-9 after the first quarter and never truly challenged, the final 16-point margin flattering the Taipans.

This was Brandon Paul's time to shine and he certainly did as Adelaide wrapped up Team of the Week honours in grand style.

Not so grand were those flapping Phoenix of South East Melbourne. Yes, we know they've been through a lot this season, first with the injuries to Dane Pineau and continued injury-forced absence of star import Keifer Sykes.

And yes, losing Ryan Broekhoff early to an errant elbow and cut above the eye didn't do the Phoenix much good against Brisbane either. Neither has the "elephant in the room" issues - now resolved - surrounding Mitch Creek.

But what a listless pi$$ant performance they produced. Keep hearing how Kyle Adnam deserves a major contract upgrade next season and/or he will be high on Tasmania JackJumpers' shopping list. Well sadly, he's believing the hype.

When he goes 3-of-12 and Creek, the team's major asset, has six shot attempts, something is seriously wrong. Apart from Izayah Mauriohooho-Le Afa, this outfit did little more than phone it in and understandably was gunned down by the Bullets - a three-time Team of the Weak As P--- unit, including the previous two rounds.

Instead in Round 16, South East Melbourne unfortunately earnt Team of the Weak As P--- honours.
