THE Boomers had a rude awakening when host nation Brazil – a possible crossover opponent in Rio – gave them a 96-67 reality check today.

Patty Mills found his way to 18 points but after Brazil uncorked a 23-10 second period, all thoughts of a champagne Olympics turned to lemon squash.

But, just as too much shouldn’t be read into beating Argentina in Buenos Aries, too much shouldn’t be assessed from this beating either, Australia hammered 44-26 on the boards.

Although the one thing everyone should realise is making it past the group stage at the Olympics is going to be  a feat in itself. That’s world #3 France, followed by world #2 Serbia, followed by world #1 USA, with Venezuela and China still on the schedule.

Pretty sure the focus now is simply on playing the best basketball the team can produce and seeing where that can take them.

That medal dais would be quite the feat.
