Sacre bleu! French franked

A 20-point haul by Erin Phillips on 8-of-10 shooting and a double-double by Liz Cambage has led Australia to a 76-67 win over France ahead of Monday morning’s clash with the USA at Madison Square Garden.

The Americans today rolled over Canada by 40 points – the Opals downed Canada by 13 – to reinforce they are the team to beat in Rio next month.

Not that there was ever much doubt.

Nonetheless the Aussies looked good against the FIBA World #4 France, a 24-9 second period igniting a 28-6 run across the second and third quarters leaving the French exclaiming “ooh la la”.

Cambage enjoyed a 19-point, 10-rebound double while Penny Taylor (pictured) dropped 12 points at 80 per cent, with six rebounds and three assists.

Phillips had a game-high five assists as the Opals shot at 46 per cent, held France to just two offensive rebounds while winning the boards 33-24.
