Saturday Wrap: Paint the Palace gold?

FINGERS crossed Basketball Australia has used the money saved not marketing the NBL to buy gold-colored T-shirts to place on every seat tomorrow at The Palace.

How good would that look for a national TV audience tuning in on ABC tomorrow for the Opals-Tall Ferns, Boomers-Tall Blacks Oceania Series second-leg games?

Patty Mills tweeted the suggestion long ago and many hoped BA would react, especially those who saw how impressive many NBA venues looked during the playoffs with T-shirts laid out for fans to come in and wear.

But this week when Opals co-captain Jenni Screen tweeted after the series openers in Auckland: "Let's paint the Arena GREEN and GOLD Sunday! Two games, two wins!" it seemed more as though she was imploring fans to come in the national teams' colors.

Surely the national federation should have covered this?

BASKETBALL lost another positive media contributor and writer this week with Peter Kogoy signing off at The Australian newspaper.

Kogoy, ("How you going paison?") with his gruff voice, gruff manner but clear love for sportsmen and women, is a huge loss to an industry already very much in flux.

He will be greatly missed.
