Sky bedridden by Fever

ERIN Phillips and her Indiana Fever WNBA champion teammates welcomed Eastern Conference champion Chicago to the playoffs for the first time in the Sky’s eight years, then dumped them out in 48 hours.

The Fever doled out a 2-0 semi final sweep to advance to the Eastern Conference final against the Atlanta-Washington series winner.

Indiana’s 79-57 win early today followed an 85-72 win in Chicago on Saturday.

The Sky simply fell in.

“We weren't able to bounce back and just crumbled,” Sky forward Elena Delle Donne said.

Indiana coach Lin Dunn figured a lot of that was due to the huge edge in postseason experience her team has – they have played finals for nine straight years.

Of nine Fever players who saw action today, seven played in last year's championship.

The Sky were the league's No. 2 rebounding team this season but were outrebounded 70-51 by the smaller but feverish Indiana in the two games.

BRETT Brown has added Villanova assistant Billy Lange to his Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff, joining Chad Iske (formerly of the Denver Nuggets), Lloyd Pierce (Memphis Grizzlies) and Greg Foster (University of Texas at El Paso).

Lange, 41, was the Wildcats' associate head coach for the past two seasons after seven seasons as Navy’s head coach.

With Brown having moved on to his new challenge, New Zealand’s former Heat centre Sean Marks joins head coach Gregg Poppovich on the San Antonio Spurs bench.

The affable Kiwi started in the Spurs' front office in 2011 as a basketball-operations assistant before being promoted to general manager of the Spurs' D-League team last season.

Marks, 38, played for Miami from 2001 to 2003 and later with the Spurs from 2005 to 2007.

He is particularly valued as Tim Duncan's pre-game workout partner.

MEANWHILE in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Spurs guard Tony Parker has helped France win its first major basketball title by beating Lithuania 80-66 in the final of the European championship.

Parker had a quiet game for once but Lithuania could not handle his teammates.

Nicolas Batum had 17 points and Boris Diaw added 15, while Linas Kleiza led Lithuania with 20.

Parker finished with 12 points, after scoring four through the first three quarters but his scoring and leadership during the run to the final - including 32 points against defending champion Spain in the semi finals – scored him tournament MVP honors.
