The Week That Was ... #1

THE Opals today hammered Japan B 91-52 as part of their four-game tour, following last night’s thrilling 80-79 win over Japan in Akita.

“Rookie” Opals playmaker Leilani Mitchell completed last night's thrilling win from the free throw line, making both clutch shots after Laura Hodges grabbed a key defensive board with 6.8 seconds left and Australia trailing 78-79.

Liz Cambage and Belinda Snell led the scoring with 19 apiece, Marianna Tolo with 10 as the Opals fought back from a 15-point deficit in the second quarter.

But it was smooth sailing today against Japan’s B team as Snell shot the Aussies out of the gate, the hosts with no answers.

Marianna Tolo dominated inside and Rebecca Allen showed more offensively after already stamping herself as one of our up-and-coming premier defenders.

Australia faces Japan again tomorrow in Yagamata, concluding its tour on Tuesday against Mozambique.
