The Week That Was ... #2
TweetSYDNEY Kings this week announced the signing of import Kendrick Perry - no, not Kendrick Perkins, though what the Kings are paying Perry probably is closer to what $7million man Perkins should annually earn in the NBA.
Perry, in fact, is a 183cm guard who completed his four-year stint at Youngstown State University in Ohio as the school's leading scorer.
The six-footer also has a 6-6 wingspan which probably goes some way toward explaining why he led the Horizon League in steals while also averaging 21.3 points at 51 per cent in his senior year.
Just a wee bit confused by his quote in our News Corp story by Amy Stevenson as he explained his recent NBA Summer League experience with Orlando Magic.
“Playing against that calibre of guys you’re playing against players some guys who have played in the top overseas teams," Perry apparently said.
Um. Excuse me. Maybe Amy misheard him?
Unquestionably, Perry has been a star and should bring more to the Kings than Jesse Sanders, Charles Carmouche or Corin Henry managed.
There will be guard news too for the Hawks at Wollongong, Rhys Martin's dream of using his Irish background to score a gig in Europe meaning coach Gordie McLeod may need to come up with two imports for the backcourt.
But hey, they have secured new signings Adam Ballinger and Brad Hill who this week was a SEABL Player of the Week with his exploits at Mount Gambier Pioneers.
