The Week That Was ... #3

NEW Zealand's midweek signing, Tai Wesley, was on the radar of several NBL teams before the Breakers swooped in to secure the Guam international.

Under FIBA's Oceania Player Rules, power forward Wesley - who has a Fijian father and played at Utah State University - is not classified as an import.

With Breakers assistant Paul Henare coaching Wesley in the NZ NBL at Southland Sharks and former New Zealand import Gary Wilkinson a teammate back at Utah, joining the three-time champion was a no-brainer for Wesley.

The Breakers are hoping Wesley, 28, will have similar impact and success to Perth's 2013-14 "mature age" recruit Tom Jervis, who finished as the NBL's Rookie of the Year in a Championship team.

While the triple-champs continue to assemble a very talented roster for another tilt at the summit, Melbourne formally lost two-time Tigers club MVP Chris Goulding to CAI Zaragoza in Spain.

CAI Zaragoza will make its Eurocup debut after coming off its best season and means Goulding will join fellow Boomers' squad member Brad Newley in Spain, the dual-Olympian confirming his return to Gran Canaria.

Runner-up for the 2014 NBL MVP award, Goulding will team up with the league's 2012 MVP, Kevin Lisch, at CAI Zaragoza.

Small world eh?
