The Week That Was ... #4

AUSTRALIA's Opals today completed a 3-0 sweep of Japan when they whipped the hosts 67-52 at Yagamata.

Liz Cambage - the first woman to dunk at an Olympics when she did it against Russia in London at the 2012 Games - led the Aussie assault with 24 points and 14 boards.

A 24-11 third quarter made it largely academic, Australia winning the series opener 80-79, then yesterday smacking Japan B 91-52 with Cambage not suiting.

The Opals have a day off tomorrow before concluding the trip playing against Mozambique on Tuesday.

WHILE rookie Sydney NBL coach Damian Cotter is away with the Opals, he no doubt would be just as excited as Kings fans at the form of homecoming guard Jason Cadee.

Since departing from Adelaide 36ers after the 2014 Grand Final, Cadee has had a great turn in the NZ NBL, then last night shot out the lights in NSW's Waratah League with 54 points for his beloved Bankstown Bruins.

Opponent Central Coast did not know what hit it as Cadee opened with a blistering 23-point first quarter including five 3-pointers and 7-of-7 shooting.

He had 28 points at halftime, then again cut loose for a further 26 in the second half.

In the process he broke the Waratah League's single game record previously held by Tim Hudson, who, ironically, was the opposing coach.

APPARENTLY Australia's World Cup men's team will be revealed by Basketball Australia tomorrow.

Looking forward to that with a potentially very medal-capable lineup, even without injured NBA duo Andrew Bogut and Patty Mills.
