The Week That Was

STEPHEN Curry sinks an amazing shot, Townsville Crocs saved, Townsville on fire on the recruiting front, Patty goes batty and Smokin' Joe tells it like it is!

That was the week that was and what a week it was too.

*Curry's corner three to complete Golden State Warriors' Game 3 comeback from 20 down at three-quarter time to the Pelicans in New Orleans and force overtime in their NBA Western Conference first round clash was simply sensational.

*Creditors accepting the excellent offer put forward by Townsville Crocodiles which has kept them swimming back at The Swamp for a further NBL season again was promising - for the short term at the very least.

*The WNBL's reigning champion Townsville Fire have had a terrific recruiting week, adding imports Briana Butler and Natalie Novosel, along with West Coast Waves "big" Darcee Garbin to offset the losses of Rachael McCully (retirement) and Steph Cumming (Dandenong Rangers).

*Patty Mills was instrumental in San Antonio pinching Game 2 of their NBA Western Conference first round series with the Clippers in Los Angeles, his free throws taking the game into overtime where the Spurs prevailed to make it 1-1.

*Patty was solid again as the Spurs took a 2-1 lead today at home in San Antonio, winning 100-73, Kawhi Leonard unbelievable. Hot on the heels of winning the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award, Kawhi scored a career-high 32 points against the Clips, threw down a wicked dunk off a Danny Green feed, hit shots from the perimeter or Js, or going to the hoop AND played his part defensively on Chris Paul. This 23-year-old has all the hallmarks of greatness including an unfairly under-rated quality - especially in the USA - of humility.

*Aussie Boomers and Utah Jazz swingman Joe Ingles lobbed back in Adelaide on Tuesday, his fiancee's netball team winning, his beloved Hawthorn coming off a rout of the Bulldogs and his NBA career on a continued upswing. Life is grand for Joe, even if he has had to reluctantly follow medical advice and withdraw from the Boomers team to face New Zealand in August.

Been a good week for basketball.
