Then there were ... three?

AND then there were three left in the NBA playoffs - not three teams (there's eight still going), but three Aussies.

Leading the charge in the Western Conference is Andrew Bogut, whose Golden State Warriors today took a 1-0 semi final lead at home over Memphis Grizzlies 101-86.

Bogut was in foul trouble but Stephen Curry, who will be named league MVP tomorrow, had 22 with seven assists.

It was GSW's franchise-record 21st consecutive home win in front of a raucous crowd which gave Grizzlies guard Tony Allen plenty of stick for inadvertently walking through a dance routine after a game break.

Memphis again was minus guard Mike Conley (eye), frontcourt duo Marc Gasol with 21 points and nine rebounds, Zach Randolph with 20 points and nine boards.

Conley's left eye still is swollen as he recovers from surgery to repair broken bones in his face.

Over in the Eastern Conference, Washington jumped Atlanta 104-98, Bradley Beal with a sprained ankle, plus 28 points.

Taking advantage of a week off since sweeping Toronto, the Wizards wore down the Hawks in the fourth quarter, Marcin Gortat's lay-in off a pass from John Wall with 14.6 seconds left sealing the deal.

The Wizards are the first team in NBA history to win four straight Game 1s on the road, improving to 8-1 in playoff games away from Washington over the past two years.

Aussies still left in the title hunt in the East are Matthew Dellavedova (Cleveland) and Cam Bairstow (Chicago) but one of them won't get to the Conference Final, given they meet in the semis from tomorrow.

Patty Mills and Aron Baynes' hopes for a Spurs back-to-back ended yesterday in Los Angeles while Joe Ingles and Dante Exum (Utah Jazz) both are home in Australia, taking a well-earned break.
