Walker sky high but Wildcats roar

LUCAS Walker had his best game as an Adelaide 36er last night, exhausting himself as Perth ran up another NBL win over its old rival at Titanium Security Arena.

Walkers’ second-effort plays were inspirational at times but a Casey Prather-Shawn Redhage first-half onslaught threw the Sixers back on their heels.

WALKING TALL: Lucas Walker lays it in as Nathan Jawai arrives.

After slipping behind by as many as 10 points in the third quarter, they recovered sufficiently to take an 84-79 lead in the last, mainly built on the efforts of Walker, Jerome Randle and Anthony Petrie.

Nathan Jawai pushed Perth into the lead before Matty Knight, well held on the night, stole the ball from Randle for a lay-up.

Daniel Johnson continued his horror night at the other end and with 20 seconds left, Knight had two free throws for a six-point lead.

Incredibly, he missed both. Even more incredibly, Jesse Wagstaff slipped between two 36ers defenders to the opposite side of the basket and cleaned up the offensive board for 92-86.

Ball game.

Tonight: AL Harrington plays his last game as Josh Childress’ import replacement at Sydney – Childress back next game from his hand injury or suspension, whichever comes first – which should have the Kings active and keen to build on last round’s win over Adelaide. New Zealand hits Sin City without Tai Wesley (appendicitis) but with its game starting to roll and United next, it can’t afford to slip up here.

Last night: WILDCATS 94 (Prather 20, Beal, Redhage 16, Jawai 14, Kenny 10; Knight 9 rebs; Beal 8 assts) d 36ERS 88 (Randle 21, Gibson 15, Walker, Johnson 11; Petrie 9 rebs; Randle, Gibson 4 assts) at Titanium Security Arena.
