We have a Champion : NBA Finals Countdown

GOLDEN State's 104-90 Game 5 close-out victory today over Houston in the NBA's Western Conference Final means Australia WILL, indeed, again boast a Champion this year.

Andrew Bogut grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked two shots in 19 minutes to play his role in what was a tougher win than the margin - and 4-1 series success - might indicate.

His fellow Victorian, Matthew Dellavedova, already qualified for the Finals yesterday with the Cleveland Cavaliers sweeping past Atlanta in the East to give us our own unique slice of NBA history - an Aussie on both Championship Finalists.

It confirms that after Patty Mills and Aron Baynes last year won with San Antonio, this year again an Australian baller will play a key role in deciding the Championship.

It is fantastic for Australian basketball but the question now for Aussie NBA fans is who to support, an 11-year pro who was our historic first No.1 NBA Draft pick and who has battled on through a couple of horrific injuries?

Or a guy who went undrafted, forced his way onto the roster, then into the team and now, at what should be the highest point of his NBA career, is having to deal with the ridiculous "is Delly dirty" debate?

It's a toughie because both have plenty to recommend them and it is a Finals series (from tomorrow-week) which has myriad highlights as it is.

For instance, it will feature reigning league MVP Stephen Curry (who Delly is sure to see time on), easily one of the greatest shooters of all time, if not No.1 outright.

Then there is LeBron James, the best player of his era and a force of nature driven by the desire to take his home a title.

There's Kyrie Irving running back into form for the Cavs and Klay Thompson hitting 4-of-6 threes today for GSW, to resume his role with Curry as a "Splash Brother".

Personally, I'm looking forward to two power forward bulls in Tristan Thompson and Draymond Green locking horns, Bogut to have his hands full too on Timofey Mozgov.

That's without even mentioning Harrison Barnes or Andre Iguodala for GSW, or J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert at Cleveland.

There's so much to look forward to that picking a side right now - if you're not already a Warriors or Cavs fan - seems a cause for unnecessary heartburn. More a case of, sit back and enjoy.

CURRY led all scorers today with 26, Thompson with 20 but it was Barnes who went off in the last quarter when the Rockets offered their last hurrah.

He finished with 24 points but his jumpshot, dunk, three, etcetera in a 13-point last quarter was the decisive factor.

Dwight Howard had an 18-point, 16-rebound double for Houston but Game 4 hero James Harden was 2-of-11 from the floor in his 14-point tally, his 13 turnovers an NBA playoff game record.

Jason Terry also went down fighting with 16 points.

Rookie Warriors coach Steve Kerr was naturally elated post-game. It is the first time since the NBA launched that two rookie head coaches (Kerr and David Blatt) have met for the Championship.

"I always think of Pat Riley's great quote when you're coaching in the NBA: 'There's winning and there's misery.' And he's right," Kerr said.

"It's more than relief. It's joy. Our players are feeling it. I know our fans are."

Cleveland has never won an NBA Championship, swept by San Antonio in 2007 in the Cavaliers' only appearance in the Finals.

Golden State has not reached the Finals since it won the title in 1975, 40 years ago.

Yep. This is one to sit back and enjoy.
