While we were asleep...

WHILE we were staying up until all hours watching the Olympic Games, NBL clubs were still recruiting. Here’s what you may have missed.

Adelaide beat a depleted, import-less Illawarra 2-1  in the Top End Classic in Darwin, with 36ers import Eric Jacobsen named event MVP.

Brisbane signed dual-Wildcats championship starter Jermaine Beal – as we tipped the Bullets would – and in further good news, the shoulder injury Cam Bairstow suffered at the Olympics with the Boomers, will not require surgery.

Cairns has recruited three imports with arguably the league’s most interesting names, Fuquan Edwin, Nnanna Egwu and Travis Trice. The Taipans still have a roster spot to fill. Boom recruit Nathan Jawai (below) required surgery on his right index finger after a training accident and is working his way back.

Rotnei Clarke is back for the Hawks and joining him at Wollongong are Marvelle Harris and Michael Holyfield. That’s on top of Nick Kay and Mitch Norton (former Crocs) … but you already knew that.

Ramone Moore and Devin Williams are new import faces at Melbourne, joining Cedric Jackson, with Olympian David Andersen (below) the real wild card after an excellent farewell Games performance in Rio.

The Breakers still have a roster spot available for an American, Ben Woodside the only import across the Tasman at present. Tall Black Rob Loe is a huge pick-up, as, of course, is superstar Kirk Penney.

The reigning champion Wildcats have kept their core intact, import Casey Prather back alongside Olympian Damian Martin and many of the usual suspects. Jaron Johnson and Jameel McKay are the new import faces, Angus Brandt also a valuable pickup from a centre-heavy Sydney.

Kevin Lisch, Brad Newley, Aleks Maric – is this the “Big Three” at the Kings? It sure looks like it, though signing Chinese forward Bo Liu shows some imagination, Michael Bryson and Greg Whittington the new import faces. Maric and Julian Khazzouh will be the “twin towers” and a tough centre matchup for everyone, Sydney still with a roster spot left.

Brisbane is back on court as a club for the first time tonight, playing storied US university UCLA at Logan. Get along if you've been hanging out for your fix of the Bullets.
