WNBA: Tulsa shocked

LIZ Cambage and her Tulsa Shock came up short at home in overtime today, losing 90-95 to Washington Mystics despite a 21-point, 10-double from our Opals centre.

Mystics guard Ivory Latta scored 27 points and after scores were tied 88-88 at the end of regulation, Washington held Tulsa to a solitary field goal - by Cambage - in the five-minute extension.

Trailing by two with 23.3 seconds left in regulation, Shock forward Glory Johnson hit two free throws to level it at 88.

But Washington controlled the game from there, Latta's two free throws with 16.2 seconds left clinching the win.

The Shock (0-2) were led by Roneeka Hodges' 22 points. She hit 8-of-11, her six 3-pointers (6-of-9) tying her career high.

BRITTNEY Griner slammed two dunks in her Phoenix Mercury debut, but the WNBA's No.2 draft pick, Elena Delle Donne had the last laugh, leading Chicago Sky to a 102-80 rout.

Delle Donne produced the third-best rookie debut in WNBA history, scoring 22 points.

She had 16 points by halftime as the Sky raced to a 24-point buffer, and added eight rebounds to her final stat line.

Only Candace Parker's 34-point debut for Los Angeles in 2008 and the 25 points Cynthia Cooper scored for Houston in 1997 were better than Delle Donne's debut.

Griner is the third WNBA player to dunk but the first to do it twice in one game.

She had 17 points and eight rebounds. The only other players to dunk in a game are Parker, who did it twice, and retired LA Sparks centre Lisa Leslie.

Lizzie? Please take note!

Epiphanny Prince had 26 points and five assists for the Sky, while Diana Taurasi led Phoenix with 18 points and four assists.

Penny Taylor did not hit the court.
