A Buck, a Kidd and no Bull

IF, by some miracle, Milwaukee bucks history to become the first NBA team to win a playoff series from a 0-3 deficit, Jason Kidd will be its architect.

It was Kidd, in his first season as head coach of the Bucks after bailing on the (then) ageing Brooklyn Nets after a tempestuous rookie season, who had the sense to leap and call a time-out with 1.3 seconds left in Game 4 of Milwaukee's Eastern Conference series with the Chicago Bulls.

The scores were tied 90-90 at the time and the Bucks had just come up with a steal on a Derrick Rose turnover, with insufficient time to advance for a decent shot.

But Kidd called time, the refs awarded it and while Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau was still arguing for overtime, the Bucks went into a huddle for a super final play.

Unfortunately for Rose, he was the culprit again as Jerryd Bayless cut along the baseline toward the corner, then doubled back to receive the inbounds pass from Jared Dudley, scoring the game winner under the basket.

It took 1.3 seconds but again today, the confidence and self-belief showed as the Bucks went into Chicago and beat the Bulls 94-88 to make it 2-3.

Game 6 is back in Milwaukee.

Michael Carter-Williams had 22 points and eight assists, Khris Middleton scored 21 points as Milwaukee avoided elimination again, Pau Gasol’s 25 points and 10 rebounds leading Chicago.

No team has ever rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win an NBA post-season series and while that seems unlikely to change, this has most definitely become a series after looking like a sweep just a few days back.

Rose, who accepted the blame for the Game 4 loss, was 5-of-20, missing all seven 3-point attempts and committing six of the Bulls' 13 turnovers.

Portland kept its Western Conference series with Memphis alive by stunning the Grizzlies 99-92 today.

Memphis just needed the home win to complete the sweep over the higher-placed seed but an inspired Damian Lillard had other ideas.

Lillard led the Blazers with 32 points and seven assists, LeMarcus Aldridge with an 18-point, 12-rebound double, Nicolas Batum with 12-and-13.

Marc Gasol led Memphis with 21 points, the Trail Blazers heading home alive, barely, at 1-3.

Deron Williams shrugged off three dirty nights for Brooklyn against Atlanta with a playoff career-high 35 points as the Nets levelled their series 2-2 with a 120-115 overtime win.

Brook Lopez had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets.
