B&B: Time for a Mailperson to be Opalling

CHRISTMAS IS here so podcast colleague Brad Rosen and I sat down to be nice and naughty - that's the correct order is it not? - going through the controversies of the day (and there's a Hungry Jacks' sized Whopper among them) and also asking the question, what does Anneli Maley have to do to make an Opals squad?

You know we're not afraid to ask the hard questions on Brad&Boti so even though we were out to spread some Yuletide cheer, we did actually address a few curly questions.

COVID-19 is wreaking havoc with the schedules of both the NBL and WNBL. This is a tremendously challenging time for someone such as Larry Kestelman to be bankrolling an NBL product which, a lot of the time, the league cannot even put on the floor.

Then there are the crowds and the myriad fan questions. Do I attend? Do I not? Do I wear a mask? Can I get through a whole gameday wearing a mask?

Do we have a clue what any State Government will do or any "heads up" as to where there may be a coronavirus outbreak? Did someone just walk through an exposure site?

These are tough times indeed and a tough time of the year for any elite sporting organisation at a period when usually the product is enjoying its most successful days.

We talk about the big takeaways from NBL Round 3, including Sydney and Adelaide's performances and our growing admiration for Cairns import Tahjere McCall.

Do some imports have to now be on the cutting block?

The scandal of Canberra Capitals coach Paul Goriss accepting preseason referee education-specific videos from WNBL ref Simon Cosier of the Sydney Uni Flames for scouting purposes, also has a fair hearing in Brad's "Rosen Rattler". That has amazing potential ramifications for the sport and also the Opals program, where Goriss is an assistant.

And what about young Anneli Maley, daughter of Paul "The Mailman" Maley - though don't hold that against her.

She just went off for a 38-point, 20-rebound double-double for Bendigo Spirit against the Caps, is averaging 20 points per game at 54 per cent (63.6 from 3-point range), with 14.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game and is NOT in the Opals squad for the 2022 FIBA World Cup in Oz!

Come on Sandy. Get the lead out. We address this issue and so much more in so little time and you can access all just by hitting this link. Or you can go to Apple Podcasts or Spotify and find us there.
