Beal, Dawkins in NBL sights

JERMAINE Beal or Andre Dawkins? Brisbane Bullets and Sydney Kings are looking for an import shooting guard and the names of both players have been whispered in their respective corridors.

The Wildcats have completed their 2016-17 roster, with Beal (below), after three years at the club which included two championships and a Larry Sengstock Medal, is the conspicuous name missing.

“He just priced himself out of Perth,” a Wildcats official said, the club quickly moving on.

Perth signed Jaron Johnson, at 198cm, a very different style of shooting guard and more of an athlete.

The Wildcats also landed on their feet after losing big men Nathan Jawai (Cairns) and Tom Jervis (Brisbane) by quickly snapping up Angus Brandt and signing 206cm American “big” Jameel McKay.

With Matt Knight sticking around and Shawn Redhage back, the Wildcats may have a new look but they will boast familiar success.

Brisbane and Beal were close to a deal a while back and the Kings also have shown interest, the two rivals also checking out Duke University star Dawkins (below), who might still be lured by European money.

Sydney is in good shape, despite recently releasing Mirko Djeric to play in Serbia, as the club has three available import spots if it wishes to use all three.

There are free agents such as Lucas Walker and Cam Tragardh still out there too. Stay tuned!
