Boomers prepare for Borat and Co.

AUSTRALIA has named another solid mostly-NBL based Boomers team for next month's FIBA World Cup qualifier against burgeoning powerhouse Kazakhstan in Kazakhstan, a trip which should very much help our boys' cultural learnings.

Mitch McCarron and Sam Froling will look to continue their successful partnership in the green-and-gold after this year retaining the FIBA Asia Cup and as teammates now in three unbeaten Boomer campaigns.

And OK, while "burgeoning powerhouse" may just be slightly overstating the quality of the opposition, the Boomers are the region's No.1 outfit, as the Asia Cup and Tokyo Olympic Bronze Medal would suggest.

Nick Kay of Australia's history-making Bronze Medal team is also in the lineup, suggesting few real headaches for coach Mike Kelly.

The team is Todd Blanchfield, Angus Brandt, Xavier Cooks, Sam Froling, Rory Hawke, Nick Kay, Mitch McCarron, Jack McVeigh, Mitch Norton, Alex Toohey, Luke Travers, Dejan Vasiljevic.

Hawke and Toohey have been called up again from the Centre of Excellence after debuting in Bendigo in August when Australia cleaned up Iran by 30 points in a previous World Cup qualifying match.

The addition of Sydney Kings' "X-Man" Xavier Cooks, should add to the spectacle in Kazakhstan.
