Brad&Boti: Winners are grinners, so we're glum

OUR WNBL preview with Kristi Harrower dropped yesterday and today we switch our attention at the Brad&Boti podcast to this week's NBL games, Brad Rosen as always denying his blatant Kings bias and me trying to keep my love of the Jackies in abeyance.

But wow did Round 5 throw up some engaging conversation topics. I mean, how good was Bul Kuol for the Taipans in their outstanding win over Sydney?

Remember, Tahjere McCall and Taran Armstrong both were out of the Cairns lineup and playmaking import Patrick Miller was having a big influence on the game when he was sent crashing to the floor during the second quarter.

He banged his head pretty severely and rose understandably gingerly, subsequent back issues as much as concussion protocols keeping him from returning.

So Kuol stepped up, as did Next Star Bobi Klintman, the Orange refusing to be pulped, instead setting the Kings plans back a few notches.

The best performers in the game were all Cairns or ex-Cairns players, DJ Hogg and Kouat Noi leading the way for Sydney.

Adelaide started to look more dangerous than anticipated when it overwhelmed the Breakers in New Zealand and Illawarra's win over Cairns also was full of merit.

But how about the Bullets first slapping away the Wildcats in Perth, then outlasting Tasmania in Brisbane?

Remember they were down Aron Baynes and Shannon Scott but coach Justin Schueller unveiled a winning match plan that even survived Nathan Sobey being benched on two fouls after 100 seconds.

Good coaching is always a joy to behold and it was there in abundance as Mody Maor steered his Breakers back from a 26-point deficit on the road to South East Melbourne, using a zone which had the Phoenix phlummoxed.

They held on to win by three but what a game that turned into. So how do we feel about them when tipping our winners for Round 6?

Find out now by clicking this link or going to Apple Podcasts. But we have some love for our Player of the Round, although Rosen's Rattler and Nagy's Nasty are full of their usual sad vitriol.
