Brad&Boti: Southside are champs, Ants in danger

THE WNBL has crowned its 2023-24 champion and Melbourne has a 1-0 lead on Tasmania in the NBL Championship Series as former Sydney Kings assistant coach Brad Rosen and I thrash it all out in this week's Brad&Boti podcast, and we're not pulling any punches.

Frankly we were a little less-than-dazzled by the manner in which Perth Lynx surrendered their grip on the WNBL trophy - in identical fashion to how they did it two years ago against Melbourne Boomers.

Yes, we were sympathetic toward Lynx captain Anneli Maley and the manner in which they lost Game 2 of the best-of-three Final at home.

But having been down this exact same path previously, the Perth coaching staff's inability to avoid history repeating left us scratching our heads.

Hats off to Southside, most notably Bec Cole and Mercedes Russell, but also to the work of players such as Jasmine Dickey and Carley Ernst in their backup roles.

Leilani Mitchell and Lauren Jackson's experience stood out and its was a second championship - fifth? - for the Flyers, achieved in the most emphatic of manners.

Melbourne was simply too good for a fighting Illawarra in their men's semi final and Scott Roth's Tasmania crew blew the credibility out of the Wildcats in Perth.

Am I too harsh in suggesting the Wildcats "reverted"? You be the judge.

But Tasmania was magnificent in victory ahead of the Grand Final's opening match. United took away all their major strengths in an exemplary performance by coach Dean Vickerman and his charges in their game-plan execution.

What happens now? Tune in to hear our rambling conclusions.

There's also a double-headed Rosen Rattler and I take aim in my Nagy Nasty. Oh, and we also delve into the plans of a Geelong-based consortium to purchase the WNBL license of the Melbourne Boomers. Go Cats!
